In this procedure a patient receives a mild general anaesthetic, as well as local freezing.
The doctor makes a tiny incision through which a guide wire with a radio-frequency probe is inserted, and advanced through the vein. An ultrasound is used as a guidance, for the duration of the procedure.
The radio-frequency probe creates heat, and as it comes in contact with the vein's walls, it destroys it. At the end of the procedure, the guide wire is removed and the incision sutured.
How long is the procedure? It only takes about an hour.
How long is the recovery? Patients go home the same day and majority return to normal activities within a day or two.
How soon can you see the improvement? Most patients report an improvement in 1 to 2 weeks following the procedure.
Will destroying the vein affect the overall circulation? No. The blood is re-routed to other healthy veins, and they take over the work of the missing vein.
Is the procedure covered by medical insurance? Medical Insurance will not pay for cosmetic procedures. However they might cover it, if you need the procedure due to medical reasons, like pain and discomfort.
